On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am honoured to join the Rwandan community, and people around the world, in paying homage to the victims of the Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda. May their plight never be forgotten.
The United Nations designates today an International Day of Reflection on 1994 Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda.
On this solemn occasion, we honour the memory of those who perished during this dark moment in history. We mourn the immeasurable loss, and we vow never to forget. We also honour the survivors, whose stories of heroism uplift and inspire us, as they will for generations to come.
Today is also a reminder that we must continue our efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination and intolerance, and to build a world in which we place the highest possible value on mutual respect and understanding.
