On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to my fellow Ontarians and Canadians as we celebrate National Flag of Canada Day.
In 1965, our now iconic red-and-white maple leaf flag was raised for the very first time. The maple leaf pays homage to the grandeur of our geography, while the two colours symbolize our historical ties with
England and France.
Since then, our flag has become a symbol of a nation where different cultures and traditions come together in the spirit of freedom, peace, respect, justice and tolerance.
Today, I invite all of you to celebrate this magnificent country and to recognize all those who have helped build it.
Have a wonderful day!
