On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to everyone commemorating the seven days of Kwanzaa.
For over 50 years, the festival of Kwanzaa has brought families, friends and communities together to celebrate the richness, vibrancy and diversity of African culture and heritage, and to reflect on and reaffirm
the festival’s seven principles — unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, co-operative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. These principles resonate deeply in Ontario, and help to strengthen the culture of inclusion and respect that we are building here.
I would like to take this opportunity to underscore the invaluable contributions that Ontarians of African descent have made to the life of our province. Their struggle against racism, exclusion and inequality,
their stories of triumph, and their outstanding achievements are a significant part of our province’s history.
As you gather together to light the Kinara, I offer my sincere best wishes for a meaningful and joyous celebration of Kwanzaa, and for a happy and healthy new year.
