Automobile Accident Benefits Service – Feedback & Information Sessions

MEMORANDUM TO: Stakeholders and Users

FROM: Linda P. Lamoureux, Executive Chair, Safety, Licensing Appeals and Standards Tribunals Ontario

April 1, 2017, marked one year since the implementation of the Automobile Accident Benefits Service (AABS).

AABS was developed as part of the Ontario government’s automobile insurance Cost and Rate Reduction Strategy, in which it transferred the jurisdiction for automobile insurance dispute resolution from the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) to the Licence Appeal Tribunal (LAT). The goal of the new system is to help claimants efficiently and effectively access benefits to which they are entitled by means of early resolution and reduced timelines.

Transition Phase

AABS is currently in a transition phase that is expected to continue over the next 18 months. The objectives of this phase are to continue to refine the delivery of the system, simplify processes and procedures and enhance service levels.

Feedback & Information Sessions

We understand that the transfer of the automobile insurance dispute resolution system from the regulator to an independent tribunal was a significant change for all parties. As such, we would like to invite you to share your feedback and suggestions about your experience with the AABS program.

A series of sessions will take place in the cities of London, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Hamilton, Oshawa, Mississauga, Newmarket, and Ottawa.
